The New Song Women’s Ministry provides women opportunities to participate in a variety of activities to foster friendships, fellowship and support with other women. They are actively involved in many church events, hosting an annual tea in March, a day-long retreat in October, and a Christmas brunch in December. The women are active in WELCA (Women of the ELCA) and gather with groups from other churches in the region.
Christian Adult Education
Bible studies are held throughout the week at church and at homes in the community. Led by both lay leaders and pastors, topics include current events and how Scripture provides guidance for living our lives in a turbulent world. Check the master calendar or call the church office at 702-492-1771 for more details on the groups. Sunday mornings at 9:15, retired Pastor Brad Enerson leads a study at New Song.
Small Group Ministry
Ministry happens at the grassroots level and takes on a life of its own at New Song. If a need is recognized, chances are there’s a group to address it. Small groups have formed for animal care, game playing, and health. Blood drives are held several times per year and blood pressure checks are administered by the Health and Wellness Team. The Prayer Shawlers knit and crochet shawls to provide for those who are ill, are baptized, and for those who serve in the military. Building Bridges is a support group for the LGBT community.
Stephen’s Ministers are lay people who are specially trained to provide confidential, extended support for congregation members in need. They do this through listening, prayer, scripture and unconditional acceptance. They are not a substitute for a pastor, but keep pastoral staff informed about their care receivers and immediately refer any serious situation to clergy. At least one Stephen’s Minister is available at each worship service for anyone who wants to engage in prayer on a one-to-one basis. They are trained to make hospital visits and administer communion to those at home who cannot get to church on their own. The group meets on the second and fourth Sunday at 6:30 pm to exchange ideas on helping one another through case challenges. They make it clear to care receivers that they will be with them “for as long as it takes” to get them through critical periods in their lives.
Children and Youth
Led by Pastor Kathy Morris, the Children’s Ministry provides learning opportunities for children up through 5th grade to grow their faith in Christ Jesus. Work is done through Sunday’s program called Children’s Church, a weeknight program named God’z Kidz, and special events and summer camps.
Vacation Bible School, Camp Hope and Performing Arts Camp help children learn new things while understanding the presence of God in everything. Children learn fun ways to worship, build personal faith and team building experiences for Christ.
Children’s Church meets Sundays from 10:30 – 11:30 AM. God’z Kids gather Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. Camps occur in the summer.
This ministry provides a Lutheran Christian foundation and understanding for middle-school-age youth. Participants meet on Thursday afternoons from 4 – 5 PM for two years, culminating in their confirmation
Creation is open to youth in grades 6 through 12. It provides a place for them to feel involved in the church, nurture their faith into something that becomes their own into adulthood, and offer opportunities for them to serve in their community. All this while having fun and fellowship with other Christian youth!
Creation meets weekly at 11:30 AM on Sunday for games, music, Bible study, and food. Fun outings and service projects such as serving at the food pantry or caroling at the Veteran’s Home are scheduled every six to eight weeks. Youth look forward to a week-long summer mission trip and winter weekend retreat
